I’ve never been a good runner 🏃🏽‍♀️ I’ve never been a good runner 🏃🏽‍♀️ 🙅🏽‍♀️ so why did I set a goal around it this year?
.
I used to not really talk about this, b/c I never wanted to make excuses & I thought I was JUST not good at running. The truth is, it’s the number one exercise that puts my heart condition at the front of my mind. The way my heart works makes running really hard for me.
.
Ask anyone I’ve ever done sports with... I got lost on an 8th grade run during P.E. b/c I fell so far behind everyone & didn’t know how to get back to the school (directions & running, both hard for me haha 😂)
.
To “make the mat” in college cheer, we had to run 4 loops around the CU football field in 7 minutes... I never did it in less than 9 but made the mat due to working my butt off to get all the other skills needed. 
.
I have Ebstein’s Anomoly & Wolfe Parkinson’s White. My tricuspid valve is drastically misplaced, making my right ventricle (I think it’s my right? lol) enlarged. WPW means I also have potential extra electrical pathways that try to take over how my heart beats & how blood flows through it. 
.
When I run, I can literally feel the point at which my heart is about to go into an arrhythmia or rapid heart rate. I know everyone feels that “hit a wall” feeling when running, but mine has always come sooner than my peers.
.
I’m not complaining, and I’m not sorry or sad I have this. If anything, it helps me stay grateful for what I CAN do.
.
One ☝️ f my goals this year is to run a mile in 8 minutes. I’ve NEVER ran faster than 8:32 & I was probably like 14 when I did that lol.
.
Over the past 6 weeks, I have run and timed my mile on a treadmill. Please don’t laugh b/c this is a really vulnerable thing to be open about, & it’s a breakthrough for me to share because as someone who has been a crossfit competitor & personal trainer & body building champion, I sometimes feel like this shouldn’t be my reality... but the truth is, my first mile time was...
