What is Eating Psychology?… And How Does it Pertain to Me?

Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to uplift our relationship with food and body… without the constant fear of weight, body hate, and mixed messages?

I know I’ve wondered… and I’ve journeyed through my own obsessions of “looking a certain way”, as opposed to being guided by “feeling a certain way”. Whether it was in high school, when a boy I liked told me he was “scared of me” because my arms were more muscular than his.

Or the time I competed in a bodybuilding show… Judged by the “perfection” of my aesthetics while hiding my inner turmoil beneath the surface. I walked on stage thinking I looked “fat”. I didn’t want to take my warm ups off backstage because I thought everyone looked better than me… oh, and did I mention I won the whole show?

Think back on your own journey with body image, food, and health… Maybe you can relate to one of my stories. Likely you have one or two of your own. The results don’t lie. We live in a World obsessed with “being fit and healthy” which actually translates into “be skinny and good-looking”. At least that is the way the message comes across most of the time.

Take the diet industry. They are banking on $67 Billion each year to have you come back the next year with the other 98% of people who have put weight back on, or not been able to keep up with the unsustainable “life-changing” method they were sold.

The leading edge field of Dynamic Eating Psychology is transforming the World into the 1-2%… and expanding that percentage. As described by Marc David, founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, “It is a nutritional healing movement that’s changing the way we understand food, weight, body image, holistic nutrition, and health.”

Instead of shaming people into thinking they are wrong, less than, or broken because they have a challenge with food or look a certain way… the practice of Dynamic Eating Psychology sees everyone as a unique individual who is already whole and complete as they are… no matter where they are in life’s journey. We look at every food/body/health challenge as one of Life’s greater lessens, which allows us to see the challenge as an opportunity, rather than a curse.

The rivers run deep in this innovative, groundbreaking science and philosophy. This page is simply to serve as a humble introduction, and I look forward to continuing the conversation! If you would like to learn more about the Institute, go here!
